A statement credited to Jon Bon Jovi of the American Rock band Bon Jovi caught my eye today. He said:
"Each one of you has something no one else has or has ever had: your fingerprints, your brain, your heart. Be an individual. Be unique. Stand out. Make noise. Make someone notice. That's the power of individuals." - Jon Bon Jovi
Bon Jovi is too right! Sadly though, over the course of my life, I’ve come across several people pleasers. People who are either afraid to say No, afraid to stand out, or afraid to walk alone. Psychologists will easily tell you that people-pleasing is a dangerous and unhealthy pattern.
It is only by shutting out the noise that we can find the discipline be focused on our goals. Following the crowd is just a way of saying 'I'm too lazy to follow my heart or walk in my truth'
To make my point, I tried to find a great example of STANDING OUT rather than fitting in, and I think I found a perfect one! I managed to dig up the memory of a ‘famous’ person, someone who is remembered globally for their COURAGE in standing out. This person actually went against the status quo and stood out at a time when it was dangerous to do so. Who was she/he?
